Horton Plains National Park is a high altitude grassland and cloud forest area located in the central highlands of Sri Lanka, at elevations between two thousand and two thousand one hundred meters. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this protected plateau is famous for its panoramic viewpoints such as Worlds End, a sheer precipice offering breathtaking drop views over misty valleys and rock formations. The park supports a unique assemblage of endemic flora and fauna, including the Sri Lanka whistling thrush and sambar deer. Hiking trails such as the four kilometer loop guide visitors past Bakers Falls, an elegant cascade framed by dense mossy forests. Temperatures in the park can drop significantly and mist often blankets the terrain, creating an ethereal atmosphere. Conservation efforts focus on protecting endangered species and fragile ecosystems from external threats such as invasive plants. With its combination of dramatic landscapes, endemic wildlife, and scenic trails, Horton Plains National Park offers an unforgettable experience for hikers and nature lovers exploring the cooler highlands region
