Koggala Lake is a large freshwater lagoon situated on the southern coast of Sri Lanka, surrounded by cinnamon plantations and coconut groves. Its calm waters are dotted with small wooded islands, some hosting centuries-old temples, bird sanctuaries, and traditional fishing villages accessible by boat. Boat tours navigate narrow channels where visitors observe herons, kingfishers, and endemic water birds, as well as livestock grazing along the shoreline. A popular excursion visits the island of Madol Duwa, made famous by local literature, and offers a glimpse of rural island life. Lakeside resorts and guesthouses provide relaxing views and fresh seafood dinners. Historical accounts and local folklore surrounding the lake islands enrich the experience of the guided tours
